Preservation of Greens

Gosnells Bowling Club Inc

PRESERVATIONOF GREENS

ELIMINATION OF DAMAGE TO GREENS

Rationale

Our greens are valuable club assets that need to be protected from short and longer-term damage, potentially caused by the dumping or dropping bowls during delivery from a height that results in the denting or damaging of the compacted material immediately below the green surface.

Most metropolitan clubs have introduced similar policies.

Please note: this policy is not intended to be considered as penalising players, but is a genuine attempt to minimise green damage and maintenance costs and to prolong the life of the Club’s greens.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT OUR GREENS?

Please read and follow this policy.

Be honest with yourself

  • Are you dropping or dumping your bowl in a way that has the potential to cause damage to the green?
  • Can you hear a bump when you release the bowl?
  • Can you move and bend correctly to release your bowl smoothly onto the playing surface?
  • Do you need to change or improve your delivery style?

If any of the above are of concern, you may be violating the Club’s policy. If so, please take the initiative and seek assistance to correct the problem. Club coaches can help.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU VIOLATE THE CLUB’S POLICY?

The Greens Protection Panel (GPP) has the responsibility to protect the greens by observing and warning any bowlers whose bowling actions may damage the greens.

All offending bowlers will be:

  • Firstly, verbally advised and given time (14 days) to rectify their problem
  • If problem still exists, advised in writing and suspended from bowling on Club greens until fault rectified
  •  Once a written notice has been received, the bowler will only be permitted to resume bowling after clearance approval from the Club coach.
  •  In all instances, the bowler will be encouraged to seek the assistance of Club coaches to rectify their problem. Coaches can assist with bowling technique, bowling aids, advice etc

Remember this policy has been put into place to protect one of our valuable assets, the green. Of course, you the member are the other, so we need you to do your part and take a common-sense approach seeking a solution to the issue. After all it is our intention to keep all bowlers involved in our great game.
