Sunday 19 May was a very busy one for the club.
As preparations were underway for the evening’s big event, players took to the greens in scroungers on A green and the BPL Cup preliminary round on B green.
This was the first time Gosnells had taken part as a host club in this Nation-wide event.
Four teams (the minimum number for a round) competed.
Three teams were from Gosnells and a team from Roleystone.
These rounds are sectional play of two teams of triples playing two sets of five ends with a one end tie breaker if required.
In the first play off Warwick Neville (Roleystone) and team played against Dean Scott and team, with Scott’s team taking out the 2 sets.
Doddy Innes’ team played Maurice Crabb’s team. Maurice’s team took out the first set, with Doddy’s team taking out the second set, then winning the tie breaker.
In round 2 Doddy’s team played the Roleystone team, winning both sets.
Dean and team played Maurice and team with each team taking out 1 set each. Dean’s team took out the tie breaker. In the third and final round Maurice and team defeated the Roleystone team.
The The scene was set for an exciting finish between Doddy’s team and Dean’s team to go through to the regional finals to be played prior to 16 September.
Doddy’s team took out the first set by 1 shot with great bowls played by both teams.
Dean’s team then came back strongly to take the second set by 5 shots.
It came down to the tie breaker. With neither team giving edge, Dean’s team took the tie breaker by 1 shot.
Congratulations to Dean, Michael Sharpe, Rue Bishop and Ian Farley. Great game and best of luck in the regionals.
