Ladies Gala Day Resounding Success!
Beautiful Indian summer weather greeted the lady bowlers from near and far to the Club last Friday for the 2019 Gala Day.
The event was sponsored by Chris Tallentire MLA, Ray White McGinty & Associates and BCIB.
With 32 teams from the metro area and a team from Eaton, the event was a showcase of our Club.
Ladies Captain Annette Sheridan and the Ladies Match Committee had spent weeks preparing for the day.
Numerous volunteers donated to the white elephant stall, raffles, plant stall, cake stall and craft stall and the results showed!
After a cuppa and a catch up with old friends, play got underway at just after 10am for the first of two 15 end games.
Competition as always was fierce and the large spectator group was treated to top bowls.
A number of teams showed their strength and the afternoon promised even better competition.
Chris Emery and her band of willing volunteers provided an excellent lunch of cold meat and salad plus Jo’s sticky date puds.
A number of bowlers were heard to remark that they enjoyed their meal so much they wanted to have a Nanna nap!
The fluctuating breeze and the change in pace tested the players, with a number of teams showing their prowess.
The final results were only shots apart.
In 3rd place was the Midland/Morrison team of P Munday (6pts & 31 shots up).
Second place went to L Rughoobur with a composite team (6pts & 32 shots up).
The overall winners were Leeming (1) team led by L Davis (6pts & 34 shots up).
AM winners went to N Nilon and team from Eaton.
PM winners were N Separovich and team 3 from Thornlie.
The event was highly successful both on and off the greens.
The stalls, all manned by volunteers did a roaring trade and raised over $3,700.
Congratulations to Ann Noble, Sue Mackay, Kay Bailey, Jayne Archibald and Alison Brown for a professionally run event.
Sincere thanks to Chris Emery and team and all the ladies who assisted on the day – too numerous to mention!
Congratulations must go to Ladies Captain Annette Sheridan who is an inspiration to us all (and runs a tight ship!).
And last but by no means least, a big thank you too all the ladies who competed. You made the day such a success.
See you all next year.
