On Saturday 13 April, the Club held the annual Diggers’ Cup, that pays homage to our ANZACs.
The Open Men’s 3 Bowl Pairs, with a guaranteed prize pool of $3000, attracted 38 teams and was a sell-out success!
Teams came from across the metro area and as far away as Beverley. The strongest contingent came from neighbouring Roleystone with 5 teams competing.
As a tribute to the Diggers, there was one minute’s silence prior to commencement of play.
The well prepared greens were running quite quickly and weather conditions were near perfect.
Following lunch, the teams returned to the greens to play the second round.
Fortunes were mixed, with some very close games…and some not quite so close!
At the end of round 2, there were 12 teams on 6pts. On shots up Peter Haley and Nigel Tulett led with +31, Dave Bradbury and Dean Calvo on +29 and Colin Watters and Steve Harris on +28.
The third round provided some of the best bowling for the spectators.
The top 6 finished on 9pts each, with the final result based on shots up.
6th – Dave Lister & Finn O’Shea ( +23).
5th – Brett Holland & Mike Rickard (+28)
4th – Roleystone’s Les Carruthers & Warrick Neville (+28)
3rd – Colin Watters & Steve Harris (+32)
2nd – Peter Haley & Nigel Tulett (+35)
The trophy went to Leeming’s Tyrone Alberti & Matt Hosking
Congratulations to the Leeming team and all place-getters!
Great effort by all.
Sincere thanks to everyone involved.
Thanks to Chris Emery and the ladies who catered for the event. Job well done.
Thanks also to Tony Greaves and Dad’s Army for preparation of the greens.
Thanks to Anne Crabb and Phil Deas for umpiring duties.
Special thanks to Albert Pedrotti who has previously run this event. His assistance to Men’s Captain Steve Wright both prior to and on the day was invaluable.
Finally, congratulations to Steve and his Match Committee for a well run and memorable event.
