Mixed Pairs Championship goes Down to the Wire!

Hot and humid conditions did not deter the players who took to the greens for the finals of the Ray White McGinty & Associates Mixed Pairs.

With sixteen teams entered, Greg (Rowdy) Strachan & Gloria McDonald advanced to the finals against Ian Farley & Janice Nightingale in the Major, with Doddy Innes & Sue Kershaw  squaring off against Grant Anderson & Jo Dunne for the Bronze.

Greg & Gloria set their mark on the title in the first five ends, holding the opposition scoreless to be 7 shots up.

Ian & Janice fought back to take the next 3 ends to bring the score to 3 – 7 on the eighth end.

By the tenth end, Greg & Gloria were holding a strong lead of 10 – 3.

Ian & Janice rallied taking the next 3 ends to be 1 shot up (11 -10) by the thirteenth end.

Greg & Gloria then proved their determination by taking out the next four ends to be 4 shots up (15-11) by the seventeenth end.

Ian & Janice came back in the last end to pick up 2 shots, giving Greg & Gloria the title on 15-13.

It was a great effort by both pairs, with no quarter given at any stage!

On the neighbouring rink, Grant & Jo had a strong win over Doddy & Sue taking out the bronze 25-6.

Major Business Partner Hazel McGinty has on hand to present the medallions and the trophy to the winners and runners up.

As always Hazel, we appreciate your high level of support, not only financially, but importantly from a personal perspective.

Rowdy enjoyed a family moment to celebrate!

Congratulations to Keith Hibbert and the men’s match committee on a great effort in organising the championship.
