Strong competition for Ladies Triples title
Warm weather greeted the semis and finals for the Ladies Triples last Wednesday, 28 October.
After some strong competition across the board, Gloria McDonald, Jayne Archibald, and Norma Clements were pitted against Marianne Cameron, Sue Haley and Margaret Frederickson in the fight for the title.
Gloria took out the opening ends, before Marianne came back to lead 9:8 by the 11th end. Scores were even in the next end before Gloria began to pull away to be 3 shots ahead by the 17th end.
With Marianne picking up 2 on the 18th end, the scene was set for a nail-biting tussle for the championship.
Gloria picked up 2 shots to take the championship 15:12.
Congratulations to Gloria, Jayne and Norma. The win gave Gloria the hat trick, having taken out the title three years running.
Commiserations to Marianne, Sue and Margaret, who put up a very strong challenge. Top bowls all round.
The bronze was just as exciting and gave spectators a great show of competition bowls.
Margaret Fletcher, Glenys Rate and Amanda Morgan took on Maureen Dalton, Val Weaver and Jo Dunne. Maureen came out strongly to lead 18:7 by the 11th end.
Margaret answered the call to be even 18 all on the 18th end.
In a nail-biting finish, Margaret got up by 1 shot.
Great bowls ladies!
